Installing Ansys
OVERVIEW
- You need to run the Ansys installer as an administrator
- For each ISO file you downloaded, you will need to MOUNT the file using your operating system before you can start or continue the install.
- Be sure you are accessing the ISO files in the proper order (DISK1, DISK2, etc.).
- Each release of ANSYS will have a slightly different name reflecting the year and release number (e.g., "ANSYS2023R2_WIN64_DISK1").
Installation steps
- Locate the ISO files you downloaded.
- Mount the first ISO ("ANSYSxxxxRx_WINX64_DISK1.iso) by either double-clicking the file, or right-clicking the file and selecting Mount. You will need to accept the security warning.
- Navigate to the disk you just mounted. It will be called "DVD Drive" and have a letter, often "D:" assigned to it.
- Right-click setup.exe and select "Run as administrator" to launch the Ansys installer
- From the Ansys installer window, select "Install Ansys Products"
- If it's not already selected, select "Associate Windows file extensions with Ansys..."
- At prompt for “Enter License Server Specification,” enter the following:
- Ansys Licensing Interconnect port number: 2325
- Ansys FlexNet port number: 1055
- Hostname: ansys.ceatlabs.okstate.edu
NOTE: if you have previously installed Ansys, you will not see this prompt.
- If presented with the message "Windows Defender Firewall has blocked some features...", select "Domain Networks" and "Private networks," then click "Allow access"
- TIP: Select only the products you need. You may need to ask your instructor or teaching assistant which products to install.
- Allow the installer to automatically configure your geometry interfaces
- Depending on the number of packages and options you selected, the installer may prompt for the next install media. There will be a box "Enter the path to the next media.”
- Go back to Windows Explorer and locate the first disk you mounted in step 2. Right-click and select "Eject"
- Go to Downloads, locate the second ISO ("ANSYSxxxxRx_WINX64_DISK2.iso), right-click and select "Mount"
- As in Step 3, Windows will assign a letter to the new disk. Usually, it will assign "D:" again.
- Return to the Ansys installer and ensure that "Path to Next Media" reflects the letter assigned to Disk 2, then click OK.
- Installation will continue
- Again, depending on the number of packages and options you selected, the installer may prompt for the next install media. Repeat steps 10-14, selecting the third ISO ("ANSYSxxxxRx_WINX64_DISK3.iso)
- Click Next to continue
- Click Exit
- Dismount final install disk: in Windows Explorer, right-click and select "Eject"
Running Ansys
- On initial launch of Ansys, you will be prompted several times for firewall exceptions. Click "allow access” as you did in Step 8.
- REMINDER: If you are off campus or on campus using wi-fi, you will need to be connected to OSUVPN prior to running Ansys.
