STILLWATER, Okla. – Pat Brock, emeritus faculty of CEAT’s fire safety and fire protection engineering, has been selected as the 2018 Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) John L. Bryan Mentorship Award. Brock will be honored at the SFPE Annual Conference and Expo in Nashville, Tenn. in October.

Professor Brock has been on the faculty at CEAT since 1975. He received his bachelor's degree in fire protection engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago in 1971 and his master’s degree in industrial engineering from OSU in 1983. Professor Brock is a registered professional Fire Protection Engineer, a member of the National Fire Protection Association and SFPE.

The award, established in 2007, is in recognition of John L. Bryan and his more than fifty years of commitment and dedication to education and mentoring students and practicing fire protection engineers. This award is presented to an individual who exemplifies commitment and dedication to educating, training and advising fire protection engineers. The recipients are recognized for freely and unselfishly providing their expertise to other individuals in order to assist them in enhancing their education, advancing their careers, and expanding their experience and knowledge in fire protection engineering, according to SFPE.

According to their website, SFPE has a long-standing tradition of recognizing individuals and organizations for their outstanding achievements in support of the fire protection engineering profession. Each year, SFPE members nominate peers they feel deserve recognition and the Board of Directors approves the recipients of the annual Awards of the Society. Similarly, the SFPE Foundation Board of Governors recognizes scientific and research contributions to the profession through the Awards of the Foundation.
