For distinguished excellence in international teaching, research, programs and activities, Dr. Seung Ra has been awarded the 2024-25 Global Education Faculty Excellence Award from Oklahoma State University Global.
“I feel truly honored to contribute to OSU’s mission that extends beyond state and national boundaries,” Ra said. “This award represents both recognition and encouragement to continue advancing global learning and engagement through design education.”
Ra is a professor in the School of Architecture within the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology at OSU, where he has taught since 2009. His expertise centers on architectural design studios, particularly upper-level and urban-focused courses that guide students in exploring the intersections of design, culture, and urban studies. He has also served as a Visiting Professor at Seoul National University, Korea National University of Arts, and Yonsei University and has been invited as a critic and reviewer at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the University of Southern California, and KAIST.
In 2017, Ra launched the Urban Asia program, which has since become a required and integral part of the architecture curriculum. Its continued success reflects his commitment to providing students with rigorous, globally informed educational experiences.
“Global awareness has played a major role in my own education and professional growth, and I want my students to experience the same,” Ra said. “My goal is to help them become well-rounded, globally engaged architects and future leaders in the profession.”
This award furthers Ra’s commitment to students learning to navigate unfamiliar environments and cultures with confidence and creativity.
“I am deeply grateful to my colleagues, students, and the OSU community for their continued support,” Ra said. “Global engagement is not simply an extension of architectural education but a vital part of helping our students become thoughtful, responsible, and creative designers for the future.”
This award was founded in 2004 and signifies impactful individuals who stand out for their impact on international teaching, research and outreach. The award process includes a nomination from the recipient’s college and a selection committee of distinguished OSU leaders.
Ra will receive his award on Dec. 8 during the University Awards Convocation.
