Aggregates Materials Training
Description: this course covers sampling and testing aggregate based on the HCMT Aggregate certification. This includes sampling, splitting, moisture content, wash loss passing the #200 sieve, and sieve analysis for both coarse aggregate and fine aggregate. Also, this course includes the wash loss passing the #200 of a chip seal using OHDL 48. A general overview will be provided of aggregate properties, aggregate sources in Oklahoma, and the production, processing, and handling of aggregate. Also, curriculum emphasizes aggregate specific specifications and special provisions from Oklahoma DOT. Hand calculations from participants will also be required in this course.

Asphalt Materials Training
Description: this course covers sampling and testing asphalt based on the HCMT Asphalt certification. This includes sampling hot mix asphalt (HMA), sampling liquid asphalt cement, splitting HMA sample, coring freshly compacted asphalt, measuring in-place density with a nuclear gage, asphalt binder content with ignition oven, sieve analysis of asphalt mixture sample, maximum specific gravity with the rice test, sand equivalent test, sample compaction with superpave gyrator compactor, specific gravity and unit weight using vacuum sealing method, and IDEAL CT. A general overview is provided of asphalt properties, production and transportation of HMA, and placing and compacting HMA. Also, curriculum emphasizes asphalt specific specifications and special provisions from Oklahoma DOT. Hand calculations from participants will also be required in this course.

Asphalt Mix Design Level I Training & Certification
Description: this course is a combined training and certification. Topics include specific gravity of fine aggregate, specific gravity of coarse aggregate, angularity of fine aggregate, flat and elongation of coarse aggregate, fractured faces of coarse aggregate, moisture susceptibility, and permeability. Curriculum emphasizes asphalt specific specifications and special provisions from Oklahoma DOT.

Asphalt Mix Design II Training & Certification
Description: this course is a combined training and certification. This includes training in proper design, evaluation, quality control and troubleshooting of asphalt mixtures using Superpave volumetric principles including the understanding of all required calculations and volumetric concepts. It also covers proper documentation and submission procedures to ODOT Materials Division for approval. Curriculum emphasizes asphalt specific specifications and special provisions from Oklahoma DOT. Required for submitting mix designs to ODOT. Ideally for technicians with at least one year of experience working alongside of an experienced mix designer.
Standards: Variety of ASTM, AASHTO, and ODOT specifications
Prerequisites: participant must hold current certifications in aggregates, asphalt, asphalt mix design level I

Concrete Materials Training
Description: this course covers sampling and testing concrete based on the HCMT Concrete certification. This includes sampling fresh concrete and then measuring temperature, slump, unit weight, and air content using type B pressure meter and volumetric air meter. Also, it covers making and curing concrete strength specimens, measuring the compressive strength of cylindrical specimens, calculating unit weight, yield, relative yield, and cement content and calibrating the initial pressure and air content of the type B pressure air meter. A general overview will be provided of concrete materials, mixture design, batching, transportation, placing, curing of Portland Cement Concrete for both highways and bridges. Also, curriculum emphasizes concrete specific specifications and special provisions from Oklahoma DOT. Hand calculations from participants will also be required in this course.

Soil Mechanics Training
Description: this course covers procedures for soils based on the HCMT Soils certification. This includes classification of soils and soil-aggregate mixtures, dry preparation of disturbed soils and soil aggregate samples, soil gradation, material finer than #200 (75 m) by washing, Atterberg limits (plastic limit, liquid limit, and place index), in-place density and moisture content of soils, specific gravity and absorption of coarse aggregate, moisture content and density relations of soils using a standard proctor test, sand equivalent test, and correction for coarse particles in the soil compaction test. A general overview will be provided of earthwork construction practices. Also, curriculum emphasizes soils specific specifications and special provisions from Oklahoma DOT. Hand calculations from participants will also be required in this course.

Fees
Fees for training and certification modules were originally set by the Oklahoma Highway Construction Materials Technician Certification Board with the approval of the Oklahoma Legislature. In 2023 the Oklahoma DOT assumed responsibility for establishing fees.
Certification Module Procedures
Before enrolling, applicants should be proficient in the tests and procedures to be evaluated for certification.
Applicants will be required to demonstrate performance of the listed procedures without the aid of references (excluding those charts and forms provided by the Training Center as common reference materials) or evaluator assistance. On the open-book written examination, applicants must score a minimum of 70% on each procedure and an overall minimum score of 80% .
