CEAT Alumni Highlight - Brenda Trevino

My alumni story is still going strong.

The month after graduation, I moved to Texas to work for Exxon USA in the civil engineering group.

I was exposed to project management, design, construction and maintenance work. After receiving my professional engineering license, I took the opportunity to take a position at Harris County Flood Control District. There my skills took me to the position of manager of construction for flood improvement projects working with the Corps of Engineers in Galveston, Texas, on the only (to date) completed federal channel improvement project in Harris County. My next move was to the Port of Houston Authority where I recently retired after 17 years. At the port, I managed land-based facilities projects, became the assistant engineering manager for a staff of 52 and later served as a director in charge of federal grants, sustainability, project controls and the evaluation of business opportunities for the organization.

Now in retirement, I am involved in the Potawatomi Nation, giving back to the tribe for the benefits it has provided me over the years and to continue to learn and grow (something OSU instilled in me). I am just as proud to be a Native American and a woman engineer as I have been to be a wife and mother of two. Both of these identifiers never held me back from achieving what I wanted to achieve.

I am so very proud of my Oklahoma roots and where I am today. None of it has been accomplished alone. My parents, friends and extended family have played a huge role in my life.

A big thank you to OSU, the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology and the connections I made while there.
