Friday, December 15, 2023
Meet Kousha Mirjavadi, a first year PhD student of the Center for Integrated Building Systems (CIBS) at OSU, set to graduate in 2028. Kousha is a well-rounded and determined personality, making strides in revolutionizing the realm of HVAC systems. His commitment to sustainable innovation and passion for environmental impact drive his academic pursuits.
His academic journey intertwines with a blend of interests beyond academia. Active and an avid tennis player, Kousha also values intellectual challenges. He gave an example of recently taking a liking to chess and expressed sentiments of determination to master the challenge of the chess-bot opponent.
At the heart of Kousha's current research lies the simulation of Scroll and Rolling piston compressors for residential HVAC applications. These models aim to optimize efficiency by testing them with eco-friendly refrigerants. His goal is to refine compressor designs, maximizing both efficiency and environmental sustainability.
Kousha's dedication to his field is shown in his published works. One such paper delves into the comparison between the organic Rankine cycle and Kalina cycle within the context of a cascade power cycle integrated with a parabolic trough collector. He also has a review paper which offers a comprehensive analysis of studies centered around the fusion of parabolic trough collectors and organic Rankine cycles for cost-effective, eco-friendly electricity production.
From the outset of his academic journey, Kousha was drawn to initiatives that offered meaningful environmental solutions. He found CIBS held the prospect of contributing to projects with tangible outcomes aligned with his vision of making a difference. Envisioning a future where his work drives tangible change, Kousha aspires to contribute to the industry through experimental research projects. His ambition is to translate theoretical concepts into real-world applications, optimizing industry operations to maximize efficiency and sustainability.
As for his post-graduation plans, Kousha remains open to the possibilities that lie ahead. With an unwavering focus on his ongoing research and a dedication to pioneering sustainable HVAC solutions, the future holds boundless opportunities for Kousha. In the realm of HVAC technology, Kousha Mirjavadi stands at the forefront, driven by a profound commitment to innovation, sustainability, and the betterment of our planet.
