Oklahoma State University senior Sophie Hawkins, majoring in mechanical engineering with a minor in management and business sustainability, has been awarded the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers Charles E. Henk Scholarship.
This prestigious $7,000 scholarship recognizes students who demonstrate exceptional academic performance, strong involvement in extracurricular activities, and a clear commitment to the HVAC&R field.
Hawkins, a W.W. Allen Scholar in the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology, serves as the ASHRAE student chapter representative, where she helps maintain the chapter’s good standing and funding. She is also an active member of the Society of Women Engineers, CEAT Student Council, and the University Honors Council.
Since January 2025, Hawkins has worked as a research assistant for the Center for Integrated Building Systems, contributing to projects including compressor testing for low-global-warming potential refrigerants, as well as solar power and thermal energy storage for an off-grid tiny house.
