Haley Murphy


Overview 

Dr. Haley Murphy is an associate professor in Fire and Emergency Management in CEAT. Before joining Oklahoma State University in 2014, she received her PhD in Political Science at the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Murphy previously served as the Program Coordinator for Fire and Emergency Management from 2018 to 2024 and the Masonic Chair for Interdisciplinary Studies from 2023-2024.


Research

Dr. Murphy conducts research in risk and decision-making at individual and organizational levels. Specifically, she is interested in what factors influence individuals and households to protect themselves from hazards either through preparedness or response activities. Additionally, Dr. Murphy examines how organizational design and culture affect individual decision-making within the context of fire departments, emergency management organizations, and other government agencies.
