FPSET student group

Student Organizations

Students enrolled in the Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology program have many opportunities to participate in student organizations and activities. Student chapters of national professional associations such as the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) and the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) are active within the department. Student membership with the National Fire Protection Association, the American Industrial Hygiene Association, and the National Safety Council are also encouraged. Unique to Oklahoma State University and the FPSET program are the Fire Protection Society, OSU’s oldest student organization on campus since 1937, and the OSU Firefighter Combat Challenge, the only university based firefighting competition team.

American Society of Safety Professionals

The OSU student section of ASSP was formed in 1980 as the OSU Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology degree program expanded to include Occupational Safety and Health as part of its curriculum.
