Jerry Dechert, Ph.D.

Dr. Jerry Dechert graduated from Oklahoma State University with B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Industrial Engineering in 1996. His areas of interest and expertise include Statistical Process Control (SPC), designed experiments, supply chain management, and inventory management. He has a strong background in statistical modeling and has applied this modeling to a variety of applications.

From 1997 to 1999, Jerry served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Oklahoma in the School of Industrial Engineering. While at the University of Oklahoma, he taught seven different industrial engineering courses, authored/co-authored eight publications, and was the principal/co-principal investigator for eight funded research projects.

In 1999, Dr. Dechert moved to Riverton, WY, to begin two professional lives. The “first” was to become President of Wyoming Hay Cubes, a family agri-business specializing in producing and marketing alfalfa hay cubes. The business distributes 3,000 tons of bagged alfalfa hay cubes nationwide from the family farm. Wyoming Hay Cubes has gained a reputation for its high-quality product, and the cubes have become a favorite with horse owners across the country. The company supplies cubes to a feed distributor in Kentucky that fed seven horses in the 2018 Kentucky Derby including triple crown winner Justify.

In his “second” professional life, as a consultant, Dr. Dechert has maintained a strong working relationship with Abbott Laboratories, a medical diagnostics manufacturer, for over 25 years. Abbott funded his doctoral research in the area of clinical laboratory quality control, and Jerry has been involved with the company since that time. He works on critical health instrumentation and equipment as Abbott’s main consulting quality engineer and statistician. His recent focus has been developing approaches for analyzing big data sets generated by Abbott’s customers. He has received Abbott’s “Vice President Award” for exceptional contributions to the company.

Throughout his career as an industrial engineer, Dr. Dechert has worked and consulted with several excellent organizations in addition to Abbott, including Lucent Technologies, the Trane Company, Global Concepts, Inc., Midvale Irrigation District, Public Service Company of Oklahoma, and the State of Oklahoma’s Health Care Authority.

Between farming, consulting, and being treasurer for his church, Jerry stays very busy with a full schedule.
