Jill Swift, Ph.D., PE

Jill (Green) Swift was a spirited and bright doctoral graduate of IEM at OSU. Much of her education, interest, and experience is in the quality and continuous improvement area. She was married to Dr. Fred Swift who passed in 2004. He had a rather exceptional career in industry (NASA) and as a professor at U of MO, then Memphis State as Assoc Dean of Engineering, and then founded the IE Department at Florida International U. With a family having two careers, bearing children, and eventually facing illness, there were notable challenges. Jill is one of the most spirited, helpful, generous, and competent people to graduate from our program. Much of what Jill has done has been in a volunteer capacity – typical for Jill. Amazingly, she is a rare PhD who did become a licensed Professional Engineer.

She serves various organizations as volunteer and consultant. Her previous employers include Christian County Emergency Management, Ozark, MO (all work here was as a volunteer); American Red Cross, Ozark, MO where she was a supervisor on call and disaster assistant; Cubic Transportation Systems (CTS), Tullahoma, TN as Director of Quality Assurance; Industrial Business Institute, Motlow State Community College; Tullahoma, TN; Instructor for ASQ Quality Technician, ASQ Quality Engineer, Quality Tools, Fundamentals of CI, CI for Executive Management; the Department of Industrial Engineering at University of Miami, whereshe was Assistant Professor; and E.I. DuPont, Analytical Instruments Div., as a design engineer

Jill has written two books and authored several papers on quality control.
