Leva Swim, Ph.D.


Dr. Swim is a Stillwater native who graduated from C.E. Donart High School and earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Industrial Engineering and Management from Oklahoma State University, and a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from The University of Oklahoma. She has Six Sigma Black Belt and Project Management Professional certifications.

Dr. Swim worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a Network Services Supervisor for two years between her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. She entered the healthcare industry after completing her master’s degree and worked for nine years at The University Hospitals in Oklahoma City, OK and thirteen years at INTEGRIS Health in Oklahoma City, OK. Most of her work at The University Hospitals and INTEGRIS was in the areas of Decision Support and Process Improvement.

Her last role in healthcare was to serve as the Vice President of Population Health and Informatics at Stillwater Medical Center (SMC). During her thirteen years at SMC, she was instrumental in the establishment of the Comprehensive Primary Care (CPC) Program, the Accountable Care Organization (ACO), the Stillwater Collaborative Care (SCC) Health Plan, and the SMC Lean Program. She was named as the 2018 Population Health Pioneer by Caravan Health for her work on the ACO.

Dr. Swim has been an adjunct professor at both The University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University teaching graduate courses in Project Management and Strategic Planning. She feels fortunate to have had the unique opportunity of bringing academic knowledge to the healthcare industry and healthcare industry knowledge to her students in the academic arena.

Dr. Swim has had a passion for transferring her industrial engineering knowledge and perspective to her co-workers in order to improve organizational system improvement. Dr. Swim retired from healthcare in May 2021, after serving in various capacities for thirty-six years. She is currently pursuing a degree in Landscape Architecture and serving as a student worker at the Oklahoma State University Botanic Garden.

Dr. Swim was inducted into the Cowboy Academy of Industrial Engineering and Management in 2018 and was named as the 2018 Population Health Pioneer by Caravan Health for her work in the ACO. She also served as the Chair of the Stillwater Community Foundation.

Dr. Swim’s hobbies involve art, working outside in the yard, and being a dog mom.
