Panel Discussion
This inaugural panel will bring together state leaders and stakeholders to address Oklahoma’s K–12 STEM education challenges, workforce development needs, and the retention of STEM graduates—critical issues impacting the state’s economic growth and competitiveness.

Following the panel, attendees are invited to view Oklahoma State Science and Engineering Fair's junior and senior division research projects at 1:45-2:30p in the Wes Watkins Center and tour the CEAT ENDEAVOR Undergraduate Laboratory at 1:45p or 2:45p. 

Meet our Panelist

Panelist will include Matt Pinnell, Dan Hamlin, Nicole Miller, Allyson Carson, Kyla Guyette and Katie Altshuler, with Andrew Ranson as the moderator.  

Matt Pinnell, Lieutenant Governor of Oklahoma

Matt Pinnell was elected Oklahoma's 17th Lieutenant Governor in 2018 and serves as President of the State Senate, focusing his agenda on workforce and economic development while chairing key commissions such as Tourism and the Route 66 Centennial Commission. An entrepreneur and advocate for small businesses, Pinnell also launched workforce and education initiatives and led a statewide rebrand to streamline government and save taxpayer dollars.

Dan Hamlin, Oklahoma Secretary of Education

Dr. Daniel Hamlin serves as Oklahoma's Secretary of Education, appointed in October 2025, where he leads efforts to strengthen educational opportunity, align education with workforce needs, and supports PK-12 innovation. Dr. Hamlin is committed to building an education system that unlocks individual potential, expands freedom, and ensures every student has the opportunity to thrive.

Nicole Miller, Oklahoma State Representative

Rep. Nicole Miller represents Oklahoma House District 82 and has served since 2018, becoming a leading voice on transportation policy as chair of the House Appropriations and Budget Subcommittee on Transportation. Her background includes key roles with the Oklahoma National Guard and Department of Veterans Affairs. In the legislature, she has advanced transportation and aerospace innovation, helping position Oklahoma as a national leader in aviation and infrastructure.

Allyson Carson, Oklahoma Defense Industry Association

Allyson Carson is Executive Director of the Oklahoma Defense Industry Association, a statewide network connecting defense, aerospace manufacturing, military, government, and education partners to strengthen Oklahoma's national-security ecosystem.  She leads ODIA's workforce initiatives, partnering with CareerTechs, universities, and K-12 programs to build talent pipelines and hands-on learning opportunities.  

Kyla Guyette, CEO of Oklahoma Workforce Commission

Kyla Guyette is the founding CEO of the Oklahoma Workforce Commission with more than 18 years of experience in workforce development, specializing in systems innovation and serving multi-barriered individuals and young adults. She previously led major regional  workforce organizations in the Mid-South, founded The Work Lab, and is nationally recognized as a subject matter expert in programs to address the specific challenges of workforce engagement for opportunity youth and systems innovation.

Katie Altshuler, Deputy Executive Director of Hamm Institute for American Energy

Katie Altshuler is Deputy Executive Director of the Hamm Institute for American Energy at Oklahoma State University, advancing research, policy, and innovation for reliable and affordable energy. She previously held senior leadership roles in  Marathon Oil and in federal and Oklahoma state government, including policy positions in the U.S. Senate and the Governor's Office.  Altshuler is also active in Oklahoma's business and education communities through multiple board and leadership roles.

Andrew Ranson, Director of the OSU WWC for International Trade Development

Andrew Ranson is Director of the Oklahoma State University Wes Watkins Center for International Trade Development and a Research Fellow with the Hamm Institute for American Energy. His career spans senior leadership and consulting roles focused on
digital transformation, including positions with TriCorps Technologies, Future Point of View, GiANT Partners, and early work with the Boston Consulting Group in Hong Kong and international logistics in New York.
Ranson will serve at the moderator for the event.
