  • United Kingdom ETA
    • The UK has announced the introduction of the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system, which will be required for U.S. citizens (and travelers from several other countries) starting on January 8, 2025. This new system is part of the UK government's efforts to streamline the travel process and enhance border security.

    • The application for the UK ETA can be made through the UK ETA app or via the UK Visa website. The process involves an online form that collects basic travel information, after which travelers will receive approval if they meet the eligibility requirements.

    • It is important for U.S. citizens (and other eligible travelers) to apply for the ETA two weeks before traveling to the UK to ensure smooth entry, as the new requirement will be enforced from the specified date.

Please note that this is also a requirement if you are passing through the UK or have a layover in a UK location (not leaving the airport).

For more details and updates on the ETA process, travelers should check the official UK government website or download the app to submit their applications.
  • EU ETIAS

    1. What is the EU ETIAS?
The ETIAS is not a visa; it simply authorizes you to travel to the Schengen Area. Travelers will still need to undergo passport control upon arrival, and the ETIAS approval does not guarantee entry.

    2.ETIA Start Date
The EU ETIAS operations will start in the last quarter of 2026 although an official date has not been declared. However, travelers should be prepared to apply for it as soon as it is required.

    3. Who Needs the EU ETIAS?
Citizens from visa-exempt countries who plan to visit the Schengen Area countries for tourism, business, or transit need to apply for the ETIAS. This includes countries such as:
    • United States
    • Canada
    • Australia
    • Japan
    • South Korea
    • Several Latin American and Caribbean nations
The Schengen Area includes most EU countries, such as Germany, France, Spain, Italy, and others, but excludes countries like Ireland and some others in the EU. See all countries included within the EU ETIAS here.

    4.ETIAS Application Process
The EU ETIAS application process will be done ETIASe through the official ETIAS website or app.
    Applicants will need to provide:
    • Personal details (name, date of birth, nationality, home address, parents’ first names, email address, and phone number)
    • Travel document details
    • Details about your level of education and current occupation
    • Details about your intended travel and stay in any of the countries requiring ETIAS
    • Details of any criminal convictions, any past travels to war or conflict zones, and whether you have recently been subject of a decision requiring you to leave the territory or any country

The decision process could be within minutes to 4 days. However, in some cases, additional documentation or interviews may be required, which could take up to 14 – 30 days.

    5. Cost
There will be a €20 fee for adults. The application will be free for travelers under 18 and over 70 and for those who are family members of EU citizens or of non-EU nationals who have the right to move freely throughout the European Union.

    6. Validity
Once approved, it will be valid for 3 years or until the traveler’s passport expires, whichever comes first. It will allow entry into the Schengen Area, as long as the traveler’s stay does not exceed 90 days within a 180-day period.

    7. When to Apply
You can apply for the EU ETIAS well in advance of your trip, and it’s recommended to apply 2-3 months before your intended travel date. While approval is often quick, applying early ensures you have time to address any issues.
