About the Center and our Programs

Center Facts

  • Established in 2024, the Center for Transportation and Construction Workforce (CTCW) is the first workforce-focused center within Engineering Extension.

  • We develop both current and future workforce talent, with a focus on supporting adult learners, Tribal members, state agencies, and industry professionals.

  • The CTCW offers opportunities to participate in multiple training programs, creating clear pathways to certifications, credentials, and upskilling.

  • We work in close partnership with the Federal Highway Administration, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, multiple Tribal nations across Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas, as well as numerous city, county, and municipal organizations.

Program Facts

  • The Center oversees four key programs: the Highway Construction Materials Technician Program (HCMTP), the Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP), the Tribal Technical Assistance Program (TTAP), and the Pilot Escort Certification Program.
  •  Together, these programs provide continuing education and training to more than 3,000 learners each year.
  • Our continuing education and training programs deliver specialized certifications and technical assistance that strengthen transportation systems across the region. We provide operator training for pilot escort vehicles recognized in eight states; offer Tribal transportation training, technology transfer, and technical assistance to improve Tribal road systems; support local government agencies in planning, maintaining, and constructing transportation infrastructure; and deliver certification programs for the inspection and testing of highway construction materials. These efforts enhance safety, improve infrastructure quality, and expand workforce capabilities.
